This is the main thing that draws me to music. Playing with other musicians, meeting each other where we're at, from all walks of the musical journey, and recording some songs together.

There's a pressure to capturing something in a live session that's different from a gig. It's more personal. I'm not asking musicians to play what they think they should. I'm asking them to play something more truthful.

Sometimes truth is covers, because that's where they're sitting with music at the moment.​ Other times it's original music that's fresh and written recently.

Or old tunes, unfinished work.

The point isn't polished and perfect. It's intimate, and what it is. The takes are real. The records aren't rough​ I'm making records in real rooms, in real time, and spending the time to make them sound like art in their own right.
